Making a Music Video

July 6 - 10 (Monday thru Friday)

12:00 - 2:00 CST

Ages 13 through Adult

Are you a singer, a dancer, or in a band and would love to create a music video of your craft? Or maybe you're interested in fashion and would like to create a promo of different stylized looks set to music? OR maybe you feel camera shy but interested in working behind the scenes; curious to learn how to craft an aesthetic vision for someone else?

If any of those ring a bell -- this camp is for you! From day one, students are fully immersed in the various facets of creating music videos. By the end of the camp, each student edits his or her own version of a short music video that was conceived, produced, and shot by themselves.

Students are taught the most essential elements of what goes into making a music video, including:

  • Choosing the right song & project
  • Learning the roles & responsibilities of being a producer & director
  • Best practices in pre-production, production and post-production that deliver results
  • Brainstorming the look of the video and overall aesthetic style
  • Creatively building mood boards & reference sheets
  • Planning the music video in storyboards & shot lists
  • Learning various approaches on how to shoot and keep the film in sync with the lyrics and beat
  • Tips for resourceful and effective low-budget lighting techniques
  • Learning on-set shooting styles, pacing, editing, coloring and adding visual special effects

Video camera or Smartphone for recording is necessary for this camp, having a computer for editing is a plus but not necessary as long as editing software is available via smartphone or tablet.
